Bronze Goddess!

Good evening readers! Since it is snowing (yes...snowing) I thought today would be the perfect day to talk about a beautiful (and safe) summer glow! Being the daughter of a skin cancer survivor, I have always been cautious of the sun and greatly opposed to tanning beds and/or salons. By using a self-tanner, you can achieve a bronze glow without damaging your skin! Not to mention you can also bypass the wrinkles and leather-looking flesh. Yay!

If you're new to using a self-tanning product, here are some things you should do before transforming yourself into a Bronze Goddess:

1. Exfoliate your skin in the bath or shower. This will get rid of dead skin cells, allowing your self-tanner to apply more smoothly and evenly. Suggestion: Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub, available at select Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques.

2. Moisturize dry areas of the body such as knees and elbows. Dry patches can grab more colour from your product and make such areas appear patchy and uneven. Suggestion: Clarins Moisture Rich Body Lotion, available at select Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques.

Once you've completed these two steps, you are ready to apply your self-tanner! Here are my personal favourites:

Clarins Delicious Self-Tanning Cream

This is a great product if you're a beginner. This self-tanning cream is lightweight and easy to apply. Infused with pure cocoa extracts, this delicate lotion combines a natural-looking tan with lasting radiance, while the caramel colour helps provide mistake-proof application that ensures even results. The reason I often choose this product for someone who has never used a self-tanner before is because it doesn't go super dark on your first application. Therefore you can simply ease your way into using such products with confidence and peace of mind.

Notes: Apply evenly with hands. Once completed, wash hands immediately. Wait until dry before dressing.

Available at: Select Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques

Cost: $43

St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse

If you're comfortable applying a self-tanner and are looking for something a bit deeper or more intense, I would recommend the St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse. This lightweight mousse delivers a rich-bronze tan and is infused with conditioning Aloe Vera. You will get a perfectly natural looking, streak-free tan that dries in 60 seconds. You must apply this product with a tanning mitt (as seen above) in order to achieve an airbrushed finish. Simply dispense the product onto the mitt, then apply on the body.

Notes: Wait for 60 seconds before getting dressed. Then try not to get wet, or perspire, for at least four hours.

Available at: Select Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques

Cost: $22.50 - $49.50 (depending on size) Mitt: $8 - $10 (sold separately)

If you're read the article and are still worried and/or nervous to try a self-tanning product, you also have the option of applying something that can be washed off. Unlike the products above that will actually tan your skin, you can choose to apply a product that is simply for 'one night only.' My top pick would be:

St. Tropez One Night Only: Instant Glow Body Lotion

This lightweight cream simply smoothes on to give you an instant, even, beautifully golden tan that will wash off whenever you choose. Simply smooth on from top to toe using your palms, or an applicator mitt (as mentioned previously) for maximum, even coverage. This product is for anyone who wants a quick boost of color when you’re running out of time, heading to a party or want a bronzed glow for an event. For a quick, non-committal, instant tan that simply washes off with water. Free from tanning agent, Wash Off Instant Glow Body is transfer-resistant so you can tan and go – and look gorgeous!

Notes: Wash hands after use. Wait until dry before dressing.

Available at: Select Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques

Cost: $22.50

Thanks for reading beauty lovers!

I hope everyone has a great week ahead and don't be afraid to rock your Bronze Goddess look!
